Meet the Team
Over 25 Years of Public Accounting Experience
Founding and managing partner, Janie Cartmell, began her public accounting career in 1998 when she joined Pasternak & Associates, PC. Through the years, she rose through the ranks from Staff Accountant to Principal, ultimately forming Cartmell & Associates, PC in 2020 as a successor firm when the original partners retired.
Janie’s goal for the firm is to maintain the high level of service for which we are known while mentoring and growing the next generation of fabulous accountants. Our approach has always been to provide quality accounting and tax services to clients. We have grown almost entirely through referrals from existing clients, many of whom we have worked with for 25+ years, reinforcing the emphasis on relationships we build with our clientele.
The focus of the firm is to provide accounting and tax services to clients; Individual, Corporation, S-Corporation, Partnership, Fiduciary, and State tax returns are prepared, in addition to other filings. Financial statements are prepared, but the firm does not complete audited, reviewed, or compiled financial statements. Prepared financial statements, tax preparation, and tax planning projects are completed throughout the year. Our tax work is supplemented by business accounting support to owners and clients’ in-house accounting staff, including Sales Tax and Payroll Tax return preparation.
Our staff has extensive experience in QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) as well as other systems to best support your needs.
Meet Janie
Janie Cartmell, CPA
A native of North Texas, Janie Cartmell, CPA began her career in public accounting in 1998. Janie holds a Masters (& Bachelors) of Science in Accounting with a Small Business Emphasis from the University of North Texas. She is licensed by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy and is a member of the AICPA and the Texas Society of CPA’s – Dallas Chapter.
Janie knew from an early age that she wanted to be an accountant. She isn’t sure what that says about her as a middle-schooler, but she has been told she is the “most normal accountant” people have ever met! She is the youngest of a large family and credits her parents for her strong work ethic.
She enjoys the variety of services the firm offers to her clients and prides herself on providing high-quality, accurate work products. She is always on the lookout for “what’s missing” or what else could be done to minimize a client’s overall tax burden.
Her ultimate goal is for each client to pay the least amount of tax allowed under the law, and ensure they are able to take advantage of any tax deduction for which they qualify.
Janie cherishes the relationships she has built over the years with her clients – many of whom she has worked with for the entirety of her public accounting career. She also enjoys the educational aspect of her position – whether that be communicating complex tax concepts to clients or in mentoring and training staff members as they progress in their careers.
While not working, Janie and her husband, Mike, volunteer with Westie Rescue of North Texas. They are both members of the Board of Directors for WRNT, and Janie is the acting Treasurer. She enjoys reading, quilting, and spending time with her family. Janie has two adult stepchildren and four amazing grandkids.
Meet JASON
Jason Ma, CPA
Originally from China, Jason Ma CPA began his career in public accounting in 2016 and has built a strong foundation in financial reporting and taxation. Jason holds a Master of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of North Texas. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.
Dedicated to delivering high-quality client service, Jason takes pride in identifying and implementing effective tax-saving strategies to help clients achieve their financial goals. Jason enjoys learning about new and complex tax rules and regulations and how best to apply them to our clients to maximize opportunities for tax savings.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Jason enjoys traveling and participating in sports such as tennis and basketball. He resides in North Dallas with his wife, Yang, and their two sons.
Meet Katie
Katie Robitaille
A native of North Texas, Katie Robitaille has been with the firm since 2014. Katie is a University of North Texas graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
Katie is the “jack of all trades” within our firm. She is a master at Payroll, Payroll Tax Returns, Sales Tax Returns, Bank Reconciliations, and Accounts Payable. She also works closely with management to facilitate the completion of many other tasks like e-filing, processing of tax returns, tracking of projects, and software installation.
She also often serves as a liaison with clients as she typically answers the phone, greets clients upon arrival at the office, and tracks the status and delivery of all tax returns. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and organizational skills are highly valued and appreciated.
While not at work, Katie enjoys traveling, working out, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite travel destination thus far has been Paris (France, not Texas). She has checked off quite a few destinations from her travel bucket list but still has more to see. Her mantra is “Work, Save, Travel, Repeat!”
Meet MICHELLE
Michelle Wang
Michelle joined the firm in 2021 and holds a master’s degree in accounting from Texas A&M University – Commerce.
She is passionate about her work and has a strong interest in taxation with experience in individual and business tax preparation. She enjoys helping clients identify strategies to minimize their tax liability while staying compliant with current laws.
She is dedicated to professional growth and aims to become a trusted advisor to her clients. Michelle is currently pursuing her CPA license and continues to expand her knowledge in federal and state tax law.
Michelle is married with 2 children. While not working, Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Michelle’s quick wit and sense of humor make her a joy to know!
Meet MATTHEW
Matthew Turney, CPA
Originally from Bedford, Texas, Matthew Turney joined the firm in 2024. He earned both his Master of Science in Accounting, with a specialization in Tax Technology, and his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Texas A&M University. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.
Matthew is passionate about leveraging technology to improve tax preparation and analysis processes. He enjoys finding innovative ways to enhance the firm’s systems and workflows, making tax services more effective and efficient for clients. His strong background in accounting and technology allows him to approach challenges with both precision and creativity.
Matthew also values building genuine relationships with clients. He enjoys getting to know each person as an individual and understands that every client has unique needs, goals, and perspectives. This personal approach not only helps him provide thoughtful, tailored service but also gives him deeper insight into how tax laws and strategies affect people and businesses in practice.
In his free time, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife Abigail, as well as watching films, listening to classic rock, and playing guitar.
Meet DANIA
Dania Khan
Dania joined Cartmell & Associates in January 2024 and has played a crucial role in supporting clients through tax strategies, planning, and ensuring compliance with ever-evolving regulations. She is committed to excellence in every aspect of the accounting process, from day-to-day financial management to long-term tax planning.
Holding a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance, as well as a master’s in professional accountancy from the University of Houston-Downtown, Dania has honed a comprehensive skill set in full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, business and individual tax preparation, payroll tax returns, sales taxes, and franchise tax returns.
Dania has also received approval from the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) to pursue the CPA exam, reflecting a commitment to advancing professional credentials and providing top-tier service to clients.
When not managing numbers, Dania enjoys cooking, spending time with family and friends and exploring new destinations through travel. This blend of passion for both precision and creativity fuels her work ethic, bringing a balanced perspective to all projects.
